Arsenal have significantly boosted their defence by signing Laurent Kocielny in a reported £10 million pound deal. Koscielny is a 24 year old Frenchman who is also eligible to play for Poland.

“We identified him as a very strong centre-half, who has made big progress very quickly,” said boss Arsene Wenger.

There is no doubt that Wenger had to act quickly to improve his squad as William Gallas and Mikael Silvestre are reported to be leaving the club as may be sol Campbell.

Koscielny has seen a rapid rise in his fortunes during the last couple of year. Just last year he was playing for struggling Lique 2 side Tours.

.”Koscielny is a central defender with great ability who performed extremely well last season for Lorient,” added Wenger.

“He has shown he is mentally strong, he’s a fighter and a very strong competitor. Koscielny is a great addition to our squad.”
