Phil Mickelson has been ranked the world’s number 2 golfer for just under 5 years, although it surely must seem much longer to Phil. If Mickelson can win the Scottish open then he will dethrone Tiger Woods, at last claiming the world’s number one crown. What greater motivation could anybody want?

There is no doubt that Mickelson is a quality golfer and indeed he will have to be close to his best to win this event. Graeme McDowell, USPGA winner YE Yang, two-time Scottish Open champion Ernie Els, defending champion Martin Kaymer and compatriot Lucas Glover will be the main contenders.

Ernie Else is perhaps the greatest threat to Mickelson as he has a great record in the Scottish Open with multiple top 5 finishes. Mickelson has though gone very close to winning at Loch Lomond in the past. Just a few years ago he finished runner up losing out after a play-off.

Many had worried that the Loch Lomond greens would be in poor condition after the worst winter for many years in Scotland.  It seems though that the greens are in perfect condition.

Mickelson is priced at 9/1 with most major bookmakers which we feel is simply superb value. Can Nickelson prove he is worthy of the number one crown? We think so!
