Spartak Moscow vs Chelsea: Champions League Preview

Chelsea have enjoyed a good start to the Premier League seeing themselves top of the table and will look to continue with their current form when they play in Russia tonight.

Chelsea are still without striker Didier Drogba who has failed to recover from a virus but are still favourites for tonight’s game.

Reports claim that Carlo Ancelotti will wait until the final training session before picking his line up so he can assess the condition of some of his key players.

“I can’t give the line-up because we want to try the pitch before,” said Ancelotti.”If the players are comfortable to play there I will take the decision after the training session.”

Spartak Moscow have an impress home record and will look to upset the Premier League Champions tonight having won both of their previous matches.

“We have had a great start, probably better than some of our fans had expected,” said manager Valery Karpin.

“But we all know that beating Chelsea would be a totally different proposition from what we had before. So we’re not getting carried away by any means.

Valery Karpin also singled out the Chelsea strikers.

“I don’t want to predict the result. We have made a good start and are well positioned in the group now. We will need to put the handcuffs on [Didier] Drogba and [Nicolas] Anelka.”
