David Moyes Asks For Fans To Be Patient With Jermaine Beckford

Everton boss David Moyes has told reporters that Jermaine Beckford will become an important player for Everton during the season and rejected rumours that claimed he is not fitting in at Goodison.

He said: ‘What I wanted to happen was him coming off the bench for 20 minutes or so, but I ended up starting with him in the early season and I don’t think that helped.

‘People say he is not settling but Leighton Baines and Phil Jagielka took a year to settle, and it took time with Steven Pienaar and Mikel Arteta as well.

‘I want to take Beckford off the bench and get him used to the Premier League and then we would find out as the season went on how he was doing.

‘He won’t be happy with the arrangement but if you ask him what he thinks is best for his development then that is probably the best.

‘I think it’s accepted as part of football now that if you join a big club there is a chance that you might not play. I can see in his training that it has to be upped, but that will come.
