Premiership Relegation Battle – Blackpool Can Survive!

West Ham have already been condemned to at least a season in the second tier of English football but which two teams will join them? For the neutrals viewing the final games of the Premiership season, Sunday is set to be a very exiting day. Those supporting teams fighting to maintain their Premier League status will have to endure a rollercoaster of emotions during the final games.

The relegation battle will actually involve five teams. Blackpool, Wigan, Wolves, Birmingham and Blackburn who will have to fight to stay up,  although UK bookmakers seem to think that Wolves and Blackburn are just about safe.

Bet365 offer the following odds for each of the five teams to be relegated:

Blackpool – 4/11

Birmingham – 4/6

Wigan – 8/11

Wolves – 7/1

Blackburn – 11/1

Manchester United v Blackpool

Blackpool face the toughest challenge of all the sides facing relegation and in reality need at least a point at Premier League champions, Manchester United. The bad news for Blackpool is that United have only dropped 2 points at home all season winning 17 out of 18 home league games this season. Many suggest that United’s boss, Sir Alex, will rest many, if not all of the reds top players for the game. It is fair to say that United’s second string of players have been exceptional this year and were even employed in the Champions League semi final. Blackpool face a very tough task indeed!

Blackpool have shown that they are never down and out and are capable of causing a shock at Old Trafford in a game which will mean little to the reds. Our money will firmly be on Blackpool to do the impossible and come away from Manchester with their Premier League status secured for at least another year.
