The Minnesota Timberwolves were arguably one of the worst teams in the NBA this past regular season as they were only able to win 17 games all year long. Even though Kevin Love emerged as one of the best power forward in the league with the ability to be a double-double machine and dominate on the glass, but Love’s much improved play wasn’t enough to improve the Timberwolves’ record.

Coming into next season, the Minnesota Timberwolves will make Kevin Love the focal point of the team, but despite having some talented young players around him already like Wesley Johnson, Jonny Flynn and Michael Beasley, the All-Star will get to play with a star in the making in Spanish import Ricky Rubio.

In 2009, the Minnesota Timberwolves rolled the dice by drafting the starting point guard of the Spanish National Team in Ricky Rubio. After Rubio lit up Team USA, every team in the NBA took notice and was desperately trying to find a way to draft the promising young point guard.

Fortunately for the Timberwolves, they were able to pick him up, but then everything fell apart as the buyout for the young player from Barcelona was far too much. With that being said, the Timberwolves decided to let him play for Barcelona a little while longer and retain his services for the future.

Even though the future of Rubio playing in the NBA has been in serious doubt over the last two years, the Minnesota Timberwolves will finally get the Spanish phenom in their lineup next season.

Whether or not he will be the starter at point guard next season remains to be seen, but Minnesota believes that Rubio and Love are the future of the struggling NBA franchise.
