Will J.J. Barea Re-sign With the Dallas Mavericks or Explore His Options?

The NBA Finals might still be far from over, but the future of the team and their pending free agents have been getting a lot of talk around the league. The one player that seems to be getting the most attention is up-and-coming backup point guard Jose Juan Barea.

J.J. Barea really made a name for himself in the second round of the playoffs against the two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers. After absolutely destroying the Lakeshow’s point guards in this series and helping the Dallas Mavericks pull off the sweep of the defending champs, Barea became a hot item in terms of free agency for next season.

There is no question at this point in time that the Dallas Mavericks will try and re-sign J.J. Barea as he has definitely shown his worth to the team and might be the guy to take over for Jason Kidd when he decides to call it quits, but with his value going through the roof after his success in the playoffs the backup point guard will have an opportunity to cash in.

With that being said, there will be plenty of teams in need for a point guard in either a starting or backup capacity that will be looking to retain his services. The one team that comes to mind ironically is the Los Angeles Lakers.

With Derek Fisher almost certainly coming off the bench next season, the Lakers will be looking for a fast point guard with scoring ability to come in and take over for the veteran. Barea would be a perfect fit in L.A., but whether or not the Lakers are willing to give him a lucrative offer or if he is a player that Brown would look into remains to be seen.

Offer valid as of date published. T&Cs apply.
