The NBA Finals is three games deep with the Miami Heat having a 2-1 series lead on the Dallas Mavericks, but Dirk Nowitzki and company have a perfect opportunity to get right back in this series if they can take the next two games at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

After the loss to the Heat in Game 3, Dirk Nowitzki made a bold statement about his teammate and second leading scorer Jason Terry. With four missed shots in key moments in the fourth quarter of Game 3, Terry wasn’t exactly doing his part to bring the Mavs back from behind and Nowitzki pointed it out.

Throughout the first three games of the NBA Finals, Dirk Nowitzki has been as advertised and without a doubt the NBA Finals MVP up to this point, but he hasn’t gotten much help from his teammates thus far. After Game 3, Nowitzki said that Terry hadn’t been clutch for this team and he needs to step up his game. There is has never been bad blood between these two players, but if their relationship were ever going to turn sour, this would be the time as these comments may have rubbed Terry the wrong way.

Personally, this is a statement by a born leader in Dirk Nowitzki and a breath of fresh air for the Dallas Mavericks. Over the years, no one on this team has been accountable for the Mavs’ disappointing performances in the playoffs and the NBA Finals besides the German superstar. It is about time the rest of the squad starts taking the load off Nowitzki’s shoulders and help this perennial All-Star win his first NBA title.
