Now that the Dallas Mavericks have won their first NBA title in franchise history, this team has to start concentrating on next season and the future of the franchise. Even though the Mavs are on top of the world right now after beating the Heat, Dirk Nowitzki and company aren’t getting any younger and Mark Cuban has to be careful about the moves he makes from here on out.

As of right now, the Dallas Mavericks are a playoff team and a legitimate threat to repeat as NBA champions next season, but they have a few players that will enter free agency with uncertain futures. The one player on the Mavs that is sitting pretty right now and has greatly increased his value as a free agent moving forward is point guard J.J. Barea.

Throughout the entire playoffs and at times during the NBA Finals, many people doubted just how good J.J. Barea was, but time and time again he came up big for the Dallas Mavericks and proved that he was one of this team’s best all-around players. The rest of the NBA took notice of Barea’s performance and as a result the Puerto Rican point guard will be a hot commodity in the free agent market this summer.

There are plenty of teams around the league that will be looking for a point guard as either a starter or a backup this summer. The one team that could really use a point guard like J.J. Barea is the Los Angeles Lakers. After the Lakers were destroyed by Barea, this team will almost certainly make a run at the Puerto Rican and see if they can lure him to Lakerland.

The Dallas Mavericks has said they intend to bring the backup point guard back and Barea has shown some interest in re-signing with the team, but some offers from other teams might be too lucrative to pass up on.
