The NFL lockout is still underway with no new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) set in stone just yet, but that hasn’t stopped teams around the league from considering their futures in terms of signing free agents when the new CBA gets the green light.

One team that has been considering the future more than most is the New England Patriots. With the Patriots being arguably the best all-around team in the league throughout most of the season last year, Bill Belichick and company won’t have many changes that need to be made, but one position they could upgrade is at wide receiver.

Now that Randy Moss is gone, the New England Patriots need that downfield threat they became so accustom to with the future Hall of Famer. Fortunately, there will be no shortage of talented free agent wide receivers available when the new CBA goes into effect. With that being said, the Patriots will have plenty of options, but seem to be leaning towards signing Sidney Rice.

Last season the one-time Pro Bowler was out most of the year with a hip injury, but when healthy he is without a doubt one of the most talented wide receivers in the game. At 24-years-old (25 in September), Rice has a lot of good years left in him and could become the best receiver in the league statistically next season if paired up with reigning NFL MVP quarterback Tom Brady.

The New England Patriots could also go after Santonio Holmes, Plaxico Burress and maybe even Randy Moss, but their first option right now is Sidney Rice.
