Top 3 NFL Free Agents: Defense

#1 Nnamdi Asomugha, Oakland Raiders

Perhaps the biggest name in the entire free agent market in the NFL before next season is Nnamdi Asomugha. As arguably one of the best, if not the best player at cornerback, Asomugha could be a game changer for a team in desperate need of a boost on defense.

The Oakland Raiders loved having him in the secondary for their team over the years, but now feel that his price tag might be a little too high for them to afford. With that being said, Asomugha will be available to the highest bidder and there will definitely be some interested teams that would love to add Asomugha to their secondary.

#2 Jonathan Joseph, Cincinnati Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals are a sinking ship right now as everything seems to be going to hell over there in Ohio. Not only has Pro Bowl caliber quarterback and face of the franchise Carson Palmer said trade me or I will retire, but their starting running back Cedric Benson probably won’t return and neither will T.O. or Ochocinco.

Things are getting bad fast in Cincinnati and it might be even worse if they can’t convince their best defensive player Jonathan Joseph to return to lead the defense. If Joseph doesn’t return to Cincinnati, there will be plenty of teams offering him lucrative deals.

#3 Ray Edwards, Minnesota Vikings

Much like the Cincinnati Bengals, the Minnesota Vikings are also a team on the decline as they will see a big change at quarterback without Brett Favre and could be without star receiver Sidney Rice too. With the offense falling apart, the best players on defense might also look to leave town like defensive end Ray Edwards.

There is no telling how interested Edwards would be about leaving Minnesota, but the consensus is that the offers he will get might be too good to turn down.
