New England Patriots @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers Thurs. Aug. 18, 2011 7:30 p.m. EST

There is no question coming into the NFL regular season that the Philadelphia Eagles has become the team to beat in the NFL with their countless additions of Pro Bowlers and veteran players, but the New England Patriots would have something to say about that as they are still considered to be the best team in the NFL with two-time NFL MVP quarterback Tom Brady still under center.

Along with the Eagles, the Patriots made some additions as well with two Pro Bowlers of their own in wide receiver Chad Ochocinco and defensive beast Albert Haynesworth. There is a rumor floating around New England that the Patriots could cut one or both of these Pro Bowlers before the beginning of the regular season, but something tells me they will keep them on the roster with the history of these team rehabilitating troubled players in the past.

As if the Patriots weren’t talented enough on offense, New England also drafted rookie quarterback Ryan Mallett to backup Tom Brady. In his first preseason game, Mallett impressive his peers by having an almost flawless performance and he will look to do the same against a much better team in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Even though the Bucs didn’t make many changes in the offseason, Tampa Bay is an up-and-coming team in the NFC Conference and will be shooting for the playoffs this season. This should be an interesting matchup with two high-powered offenses and formidable defenses going head-to-head.
