The Peyton Manning watch in Indianapolis continues as the four-time NFL MVP quarterback still remains on the sidelines recovering from neck surgery. With Manning still waiting to get back on the gridiron and lead the Colts in the regular season, the perennial Super Bowl title contenders will be looking to get through the preseason as quickly as possible and next in line for the AFC South champions is the Washington Redskins.
Before last season, the consensus was that the Washington Redskin had finally made the right moves to get the struggling NFL franchise back in the playoff mix in the NFC Conference. With perennial Pro Bowl quarterback Donovan McNabb under center and two-time Super Bowl champion head coach Mike Shanahan calling the shots from the sidelines, the Washington Redskins seemed ready to contend with the likes of the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants in the NFC East division.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case as the Redskins took a step back instead of a much needed step forward. Now McNabb has been shipped to Minnesota and Shanahan has complete control of the team, but the quarterback position is a big question mark right now with John Beck and Rex Grossman fighting for the starting job.
The Indianapolis Colts are nowhere near the team they are in the regular season during the preseason as they just can’t compete without Peyton Manning, but all eyes will be on the quarterback battle between Grossman and Beck in this game.
