St. Louis Rams @ Kansas City Chiefs Fri. Aug. 26, 2011 8 p.m. EST
Last season two of the most surprising teams in the NFL were without a doubt the Kansas City Chiefs and the St. Louis Rams. With the Chiefs winning the AFC West division and becoming one of the best running teams in the league led by Jamaal Charles, Kansas City was able to make it into the playoffs and turn around their struggling NFL franchise. The Rams had a similar resurgence with rookie quarterback Sam Bradford emerging as a rising star in the NFL with the potential to be a perennial Pro Bowler.
This year the Chiefs and the Rams will be looking to capitalize on their new found success by continuing to compete as a legitimate playoff contenders. Both of these teams will have a decent shot at getting into the playoffs this season as they both play in relatively week divisions (AFC West, NFC West).
With that being said, St. Louis and Kansas City will want to have the right players on the football field to start the NFL regular season. The only way to find out what players are worthy of a starting role is to give them a shot in the preseason and that is what the Rams and Chiefs intend to do for the next two weeks.
On Friday night, the Rams will travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs in what will be a glorified tryout with young players looking to make the cut.
