San Diego Chargers @ Arizona Cardinals Sat. Aug. 27, 2011 10 p.m. EST
Last season was disappointing to say least for both the San Diego Chargers and the Arizona Cardinals as they missed the playoffs and failed to live up to expectations. The Cardinals struggling without superstar quarterback Kurt Warner was to be expected, but the Chargers failing to reach the playoffs and win the AFC West was a big surprise.
Even though the Chargers ranked among the league’s best statistically on offense and defense, San Diego struggled to close out games and stay healthy. With both of his best targets in the passing game injured in tight end Antonio Gates and wide receiver Vincent Jackson, quarterback Philip Rivers was thought to be in trouble, but he had arguably the best season of his career and was in the conversation for NFL MVP.
This season the San Diego Chargers and Philip Rivers will look to get back on track with some new faces and a healthy squad. This Saturday night the Chargers will travel to Arizona to take on the new-look Cardinals led by quarterback Kevin Kolb.
The verdict on Kevin Kolb and whether or not he is the right man under center for the Arizona Cardinals has not yet been determined, but things around looking up in Arizona as superstar wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald has signed a lucrative contract extension and this team might be able to contend for the NFC West division title.
Kevin Kolb will be the man to watch once again in this NFL preseason game against the San Diego Chargers. If the starting quarterback can continue to hold his own under center, the future could be bright in Arizona.
