New England Patriots @ Detroit Lions Sat. Aug. 27, 2011 8 p.m. EST

The New England Patriots are one of the few teams in the league that made moves in the offseason to drastically improve their squad on both sides of the football. Coming into this NFL regular season, the consensus was that the Patriots were legitimate Super Bowl title contenders once again, but the addition of two Pro Bowlers has made them that much better moving forward.

With the addition of Pro Bowl wide receiver Chad Ochocinco, superstar quarterback Tom Brady will now have that downfield threat back in his offensive arsenal which will terrify opposing defenses this season. The addition of Pro Bowl defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth is also a step in the right direction as he should improve the defense if he can behave and get into game shape for head coach Bill Belichick.

Needless to say, the New England Patriots will be a force to be reckoned with once again this season and a scary sight for any opposing team, but they might be exposed for their aging veterans against a young Detroit Lions team on Saturday night.

As arguably the most talented young team in the league, the future looks bright for the Detroit Lions, but the success of the upcoming NFL regular season will depend on whether or not up-and-coming quarterback Matthew Stafford can stay healthy.

This year has been predicted to be a breakout season for the Detroit Lions as they have a promising offense teamed up with a defense that could emerge as one of the league’s best. It will be interesting to see how the Lions hold up against the Patriots on Saturday night in Detroit.
