New Orleans Saints @ Oakland Raiders Mon. Aug. 29, 2011 8 p.m. EST
The last Monday Night Football matchup of the NFL preseason should be a good one as Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints will head to the Bay Area to take on one of the best running teams in the league in the Oakland Raiders.
Last season both of these teams had ups and downs throughout the year, but only the Saints were able to make the push into the playoffs. Unfortunately, Drew Brees and company fell short in the playoffs to the lowly Seattle Seahawks in the first round and missed the opportunity to repeat as Super Bowl champions.
This season the New Orleans Saints will look to get back on track as one of the league’s best teams and this time around they will embark on the upcoming season without running back Reggie Bush. After sending Reggie Bush to the Miami Dolphins, the New Orleans Saints will put rookie running back and former Heisman trophy winner Mark Ingram in the spotlight.
It is uncertain at this point in time whether or not Mark Ingram will be able to transcend his game on the NFL level, but head coach Sean Payton has a lot of faith that this young kid out of Alabama could be the missing piece of the puzzle and the perfect complement to Pierre Thomas in the New Orleans backfield.
This Monday Night Football showdown will be interesting as the Oakland Raiders try to get their offense going after two straight losses to the Arizona Cardinals and the crosstown rival San Francisco 49ers.
