Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Washington Redskins Thurs. Sept. 1, 2011 7:30 p.m. EST
Last year the Tampa Bay Buccaneers took the NFC Conference by storm as they surprised all their doubters around the league and quickly become one of the best young teams in the NFL. With up-and-coming quarterback Josh Freeman leading the way, the Bucs will have a legitimate shot to contend for a playoff spot in the NFC, but it might be the defense that makes headlines this season as they might be able to maintain leads for this offense that seems to be coming into its own.
The biggest challenge for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this season will be the same challenge they faced last season and that is playing in arguably one of the most competitive divisions in the NFL in the NFC South. With the Atlanta Falcons and the New Orleans Saints being legitimate Super Bowl title contenders and the two best teams within the division, the path to the playoffs becomes that much harder for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
This Thursday night, Josh Freeman and company will travel to the nation’s capital to take on the Washington Redskins. The biggest story happens with the Redskins is the current quarterback battle between Rex Grossman and John Beck. With Grossman being the top guy one week and Beck the next, head coach Mike Shanahan seems to be up in the air about which gunslinger he wants to lead the franchise under center in Week 1.
With that being said, this game could be the difference for one of these quarterbacks as Shanahan will have to make a decision based on their play.
