Philadelphia Eagles @ New York Jets Thurs. Sept. 1, 2011 7:30 p.m. EST
The Philadelphia Eagles have just made superstar quarterback Michael Vick a very rich man after signing him to a six-year $100 million dollar contract extension with $40 million dollars guaranteed. Now the Philadelphia Eagles will have to endure just one more preseason game against a very good New York Jets squad before their Pro Bowler Michael Vick and show his team that he is worth the investment during the NFL regular season.
Even though the majority of the starters for both teams won’t be on the gridiron for very long in this preseason finale, the Eagles might get Michael Vick and company on the field for a few series to see if he can get something done against a lockdown defense like the Jets have.
As of right now, despite all the Pro Bowl additions to the Eagles squad on both sides of the football, I believe the Jets are the better all-around football team. Rex Ryan’s squad has more experience and has proven they can contend with the best of the best by making it to the AFC Championship game two years in a row.
It will be interesting to see how long Andy Reid and Rex Ryan keep their starters on the football field, but I am betting that Michael Vick and Mark Sanchez won’t be under center for more than a couple of series.
One thing that makes this game intriguing is the potential for this matchup being a Super Bowl preview.
