New York Giants @ New England Patriots Thurs. Sept. 1, 2011 7:30 p.m. EST
Last season the New England Patriots were arguably the best team in the league during the regular season as superstar quarterback Tom Brady got back to form and won his second NFL MVP award. Unfortunately, the New England Patriots fell flat in the playoffs by losing to the division rival New York Jets, but this season they will look to get back on track with two key Pro Bowler additions in Chad Ochocinco and Albert Haynesworth.
In their first two preseason games, the Patriots were as advertised as their offense was second to none and the defense was good enough to hold off opposing defenses. The third week of the preseason was a different story altogether though as the veteran Patriots team went head-to-head against a motivated and promising Detroit Lions squad led by Matthew Stafford and Ndamukong Suh.
The results weren’t good as the Lions dominated the Patriots (34-10) and proved that the New England offense is not invincible. With that being said, the Patriots still have some things to work on and will take that mentality into their preseason finale against the New York Giants on Thursday night at Foxboro.
It will be interesting to see whether or not New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has made any changes to get his team back to form. Tom Brady probably won’t play much in this fourth and final preseason games, so rookie quarterback Ryan Mallett might be the go to guy in this matchup against the Giants.
