Detroit Lions @ Buffalo Bills Thurs. Sept. 1, 2011 6:30 p.m. EST
The NFL preseason is almost over and arguably the biggest winner of this preseason has been the up-and-coming Detroit Lions. With quarterback Matthew Stafford back healthy and the defense getting another upgrade on the defensive line with rookie Nick Fairly of Auburn, the Detroit Lions look like a very good football team that could be on the way to their first playoff appearance in a very long time.
Even before the Detroit Lions took the field in their first preseason game, this young team was getting consideration as being the next team to breakout and contend with the best of the best in the NFC Conference. The one game that really turned heads for the Detroit Lions came last week when they dominated the New England Patriots and put reigning NFL MVP quarterback Tom Brady on his back more than once.
The defense of the Lions might be stealing headlines after last week’s impressive performance against the Patriots, but the offense could be what gets this team firing on all cylinders with sizeable leads to keep this team in playoff contention.
On Thursday night, the Detroit Lions will travel east to take on the lowly Buffalo Bills. It should be another disappointing season for the Bills as they have just traded away arguably their best player in wide receiver Lee Evans to the Baltimore Ravens and haven’t made any considerable moves in the offseason.
