Indianapolis Colts @ Houston Texans Sun. Sept. 11, 2011 1 p.m. EST
As a rivalry that is starting to become one of the best in the NFL today, the Indianapolis Colts taking on the division rival Houston Texans should be another one of the books, but for a different reason altogether. Yes, this game could be nail bitter that comes down to a game-winning field goal or touchdown, but everyone will be waiting to hear whether or not four-time NFL MVP quarterback Peyton Manning will be under center to experience it.
Reportedly, doctors have told Peyton Manning that he should not practice as his offseason neck surgery has caused him pains in his back that would hinder his play in Week 1 and perhaps a majority of the NFL regular season. At this point in time, the Colts look like they will go with veteran quarterback Kerry Collins under center this Sunday against the Texans.
With Collins under center instead of Manning, this game will be much different than anticipated with the Texans gaining a substantial edge over the Colts in Week 1. This is still not set in stone and might change in the days leading up to their Week 1 showdown on Sunday in Houston, but the best bet would be to anticipate Manning sitting out his first game since 1997.
With that being said, the Houston Texans should be the favorites to win this football game as the Indianapolis Colts will almost certainly struggle on offense without their starting quarterback leading the way.
As of right now, the spread for this game is -9 in favor of the Houston Texans. That is a bit high in my opinion as the health of running back Arian Foster is in question, but if Foster is given the green light I would take Houston.
My Pick: Take the Texans at -9.
