Seattle Seahawks @ San Francisco 49ers Sun. Sept. 11, 2011 4:15 p.m. EST
The NFC West division was the worst division in the NFL last season with the lowly Seattle Seahawks winning the division with a losing record of 7-9. This season things have changed for the better in the division with the San Francisco 49ers, Arizona Cardinals, St. Louis Rams and the defending NFC West division champions making changes to improve their squads.
Coming into the NFL regular season, the consensus is that any team within the NFC West could win the division and make it into the playoffs, but it might come down to the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers battling it out for the division title. If that does happen, Week 1’s showdown in the Bay Area will be huge for both teams as it is basically a must-win situation right out of the gate.
It would be hard to argue that the San Francisco 49ers aren’t the most talented football team in comparison to the Seattle Seahawks, but Pete Carroll’s squad proved last season that they can compete with their squad and have made upgrades at receiver with free agents Sidney Rice and tight end Zach Miller. The only problem with these upgrades in the passing game is getting the football to these two Pro Bowlers with a quarterback Tarvaris Jackson under center.
Personally, I believe the Seattle Seahawks need to make a change at quarterback in order to reach their true potential, but then again so do the San Francisco 49ers. Regardless of the changes these two teams need to make, the 49ers have been given the edge in Week 1 with a -6 point spread.
My Prediction: Take the 49ers at -6.
