San Diego Chargers @ New England Patriots Sun. Sept. 18, 2011 4:15 p.m. EST
Perhaps one of the most intriguing matchups in Week 2 of the NFL regular season is the San Diego Chargers traveling across the country to face off against a familiar foe in the New England Patriots. Every time this two AFC heavyweights go head-to-head in the regular season or the playoffs it is an offensive showcase with a lot of points scored.
Coming into this Week 2 showdown, the New England Patriots are the talk of the NFL after reigning NFL MVP quarterback Tom Brady put up record numbers against the division rival Miami Dolphins last week against the Miami Dolphins (517 passing yards, 4 touchdowns). This performance was amazing to say the least, but the Patriots defense could have easily let them down as they gave up 24 points to a less than impressive Dolphins offense.
With that being said, the San Diego Chargers might have the edge coming into this matchup as their defense can be amongst the league’s elite when they play up to their potential. If the Chargers can force the Patriots to make mistakes, San Diego might be able to pull off the upset against Bill Belichick and company.
As of right now, the New England Patriots are favored to get their second win of the season with a -7 point spread. This may be a solid spread if Tom Brady has another dominant performance, but the best bet would be to take the Chargers to make it a close game.
My Pick: Take the Chargers at +7
