Washington Redskins @ Carolina Panthers Sun. Oct. 23, 2011 1 p.m. EST

Last week the Washington Redskins faced perhaps their toughest and most important matchup of the season as they squared off against the division rival Philadelphia Eagles. Even though the Eagles haven’t lived up to expectations this season, the Redskins knew it was an important divisional game that could come back to bite them if they suffered a loss to Michael Vick and company.

Unfortunately, the Redskins fell to the Eagles in convincing fashion and have started to lose ground in the NFC East division. Along with losing an important division game, head coach Mike Shanahan decided to make a drastic change by benching quarterback Rex Grossman (4 INTs vs. Eagles) and starting John Beck in Week 7.

Despite coming off a disappointing loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, the Washington Redskins will have a chance to rebound quickly as they will go up against the Carolina Panthers who have won just one game all season long thus far. Even though the Panthers have just won one game so far this season, Carolina is led by one of the most exciting players in the NFL in rookie quarterback Cam Newton.

With Cam Newton being much better than anticipated in his first season on the NFL level, opposing teams have found it extremely tough to stop the former Heisman trophy winner both through the air and on the ground.

As of right now, the Washington Redskins have been favored to win this Week 7 matchup with a -2.5 point spread. Even though I believe the Redskins could win and cover, the Panthers will probably get their second win of the season.
Take the Panthers at +2.5.
