The San Siro Stadium in Milan will be rocking on Jan 15 when AC Milan takes on cross town rivals Inter Milan in one of the city’s most-anticipated local derbies in several seasons.

Inter got off to a slow start this season and this led to the sacking of Gian Piero Gasperini who was replaced with Claudio Ranieri. The team has been performing a lot better lately and have climbed to fifth place in the Italian Serie A with 29 points. However, AC Milan sits at the top of the table ahead of the weekend matches and is tied for first with Juventus at 37 points, but are on top due to a better goal difference.

Inter will be desperate to earn all three points and close the eight-point gap as much as possible while AC Milan don’t want to lose any ground at all to Juventus. This should set the stage for a pretty intense derby. AC Milan has won the past three games between the two sides and this will do wonders for their confidence while Inter will be wondering what they have to do to beat their neighbours. These two teams haven’t played to a goalless draw since way back in October of 2004.

AC Milan is on a pretty good hot streak with four wins and a draw in their last five games while Inter is even hotter with five straight victories. However, when these two teams get together most of these stats can be thrown out the window. Table position in the league doesn’t really affect this game., at least that’s been the case over the years.

This game is often decided by a mistake or a moment of brilliance and that’s why we haven’t seen many draws lately. AC Milan won both of the derbies last season. Inter will be hoping that Diego Milito can create some scoring chances while AC Milan are hoping Zlatan Ibrahimovic can do the same with some help by either Pato or Robinho.

Although the two teams share the same stadium, AC Milan has allowed just four goals against at home so far this season. Inter has allowed eight goals in games at San Siro and should have Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder back in the squad.

This could be a close affair, but there’s a good bet that both teams will score at least once in this match. Again, this comes to the fact that both sides share the stadium and are very comfortable in its surroundings even though Inter will have to lace up their boots in the visitor’s dressing room. Look for AC Milan to come away with a 2-1 win in this derby.

Sportsbook William Hill has the odds of an AC Milan win currently listed at 6/5 with Inter Milan victory at 12/5 and a draw at 11/5.
