Inter vs Genoa

The competition in Coppa Italia gets hot and heavy this week with Inter Milan taking on Genoa at home at the San Siro Stadium on Jan. 19. The winner will advance to the final eight of the tournament. Inter’s definitely one of the hottest teams in Italy at the moments, and probably the world as they’ve won six straight games including a 1-0 win over cross-town-rivals AC Milan last weekend in Italy’s biggest derby. Before that, they pounded out a 5-0 win over Parma.

In the Italian Serie A, Inter has climbed up to fifth place after getting off to a rocky start in the season. However, they’re just six points back of league-leading Juventus at the moment and manager Claudio Ranieri is hoping that the team’s momentum doesn’t slow down against Genoa.

He figures the confidence of his squad should be high right now, especially after winning the derby. He said the Coppa Italia means a lot to his team and they won’t be taking it lightly. Inter has won the Coppa the last two years and it’s a tournament that they take very seriously. He added that it’s going to be a cold night, but is hoping the team’s fans will come out and support the club.

It looks like Ranieri will have to do without the services of midfielders Philippe Coutinho and Dejan Stankovic though as they’re both sidelined with injuries. It also looks like the manager is going to rest a few of his players too since Inter takes on Lazio four days later in a league game. The most likely players to get a bit of a break are striker Giamaolo Pazzini, defender Walter Samuel, and goalkeeper Julio Cesar. Look for Ranieri to start Diego Milito and Diego Forlan up front and support the pair of strikers with offensive midfielder Wesley Sneijder.

Genoa beat Udinese 3-2 in their last league game on the weekend and manager Pasquale Marino hopes that his players can produce the same type of effort against Inter. They came from behind to take all three points for their first win of the calendar year. They now sit in eighth position in the Serie A table. Marino said if his squad show the same type of effort and determination against Inter then they have a good chance of advancing in the Coppa Italia.

However, they’ll also be without a few players for the game as defenders Kakha Kaladze, Dario Dainelli, and Cesare Bovoall are all out of the line-up with various injuries. Whoever wins the game between Inter and Genoa will take on Napoli in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals

Inter v Genoa Predictions and Betting

Inter looks to be too strong at the moment for the likes of Genoa and even with a few of their players sitting out should still have enough skill and experience to book a date against Napoli in the next round. Look for Inter to take this home cup game by a couple of goals.

The current odds of an Inter win at sportsbook William Hill are 4/11 with a Genoa win at 7/1 and a draw at 10/3. Sign up at the banner at the top for a nice free bet!
