AC Milan will clash with Juventus in the first round of the semi-finals for the Coppa Italia at San Siro Stadium in Milan on Feb. 8. These two teams are also battling it out for top spot in the Italian Serie A this season with Juventus topping the table with 45 points followed by AC Milan who are just one point behind them.

Even though this game’s in Milan, Juventus could have the edge since the hometown has some injuries to contend with. The last time these two teams met was in a league game in the sixth week of the season with Juventus coming out on top 2-0. However, both teams dropped points in their last league games with AC Milan playing to a 0-0 draw on Sunday with Napoli and Juventus failing to take advantage of it as they also played to a 0-0 score against Siena the same day.

AC Milan will have to do without the services of midfielder Antonio Nocerino as he’s suspended for this match. There are also a few players walking the tightrope when it comes to yellow cards. Robinho, Daniele Bonera, Mark Van Bommel, and Merkel all face a suspension the next time they receive a yellow. Juventus doesn’t have anybody suspended at the moment, but Bonucci, Krasic, and Estigarribia are also just a yellow away from a ban.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic leads the way for AC Milan this season with a total of 15 goals while Alessandro Matri is tops on Juventus with nine so far. The last three times these teams played a two-legged series Juventus has won all three of them by a single goal with the last time being in 2001-02. In their last five meetings against each other overall, Juventus has won three and lost two.

AC Milan has reached the semi-final stage of the Coppa Italia this season by beating Lazio 3-1 in the quarterfinal at home. Juventus has gotten this far by taking out AS Roma 3-0 at home. The second leg of this semi-final between AC Milan and Juventus won’t take place until March 21 when the two teams hookup together again in Turin.

AC Milan will likely be without Gennaro Gattuso, Antonio Cassano, Kevin-Prince Boateng, Alexandre Pato, Alberto Aquilani, Alexander Merkel, and Mathieu Flamini. Alessandro Nesta will also likely miss the match. Juventus will probably have to play without Simone Pepe and Marco Storari should play in goal instead of Gianliugi Buffon.

AC Milan made it to the semi-finals last season as well and was beaten 4-3 on aggregate by Palermo. They lead Serie A in goals with 43 goals and undefeated Juventus is the best defensive team with just 13 goals against.
