AC Milan will host AS Roma at the San Siro in Milan on March 24 in one of the Italian Serie A’s best matchups this weeken. Milan currently sits on top of the league with 60 points from 18 wins, six draws and four defeats while Roma is in sixth spot with 44 points from 13 wins, five draws and 10 losses. Milan has a four point lead over second-place Juventus while Roma is three behind fifth-place Udinese with 10 games to go.

Milan was beaten during the week by Juventus and were knocked out of the Coppa Italia in the process. They managed to draw the game 2-2 on Tuesday in extra time, but Juventus beat them on aggregate 4-3. They’ve performed well at home this season and have lost just one game at the San Siro.

Roma manager Luis Enrique said his team will have to play a perfect match to beat the league leaders and he has some good news to share as skipper Francesco Totti is expected to play after being sidelined for Roma’s 1-0 win over Genoa due to a muscle injury.

Milan will have to play the game without the services of defender Luca Antonini as he’s out of action due to a suspension. However, defender Alessandro Nesta is expected to play are midfielders Kevin-Prince Boateng and Mark van Bommel.

Milan has won three, drawn one and lost one in their past five games while Roma has three wins and two losses. In head-to-head meetings, Roma has won just once in the past five attempts with Milan winning twice and the other two ending in draws. Milan won 3-2 earlier this season in Roma. However, Milan has just two wins in their past five home games and Roma beat them at the San Siro 1-0 last season.

Overall, Milan has beaten Roma 70 times while losing just 37 and drawing the other 45. There are a lot of interesting trends and statistics heading into this game, but they don’t really mean anything once the whistle blows and it kicks off. It’s a big game for both teams as Milan can’t really afford to drop points if they hope to fend off Juventus for the title. Roma needs the points desperately if they have any chance at making the European Champions League next season.

If it’s anything like their meeting back in October it should be a pretty entertaining affair. Roma will have to keep Zlatan Ibrahimovic tightly marked as he leads Milan with 20 goals and can be deadly inside the box. Fabio Borini is Roma’s top scorer with nine so far this season.
