Second-place Juventus will be hoping to gain some ground or at least keep pace with league-leading AC Milan on March 25 when they host seventh-place Inter Milan in Torino in a big Italian Serie A showdown. Juventus is coming off of a 5-0 win over Fiorentina in their last league game and a 4-3 aggregate win over AC Milan in the Coppa Italia during the week when they played to a 2-2 draw against them.

It’s expected that Gianluigi Buffon will get the start in goal after being rested in the Coppa Italia game and fullback Martin Caceres could in place of Stephan Lichtsteiner who’s out with a suspension. Defender Andrea Barzagli could also be back after recovering from his calf injury while Giorgio Chiellini is also expected to dress.

For Inter, it looks like they may have to play without the services of Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder since he’s been hampered with a groin injury and Ricky Alvarez is also expected to miss the match. Fredy Guarin could dress after being loaned to Inter from Porto of Portugal.

Juventus hasn’t lost to Inter since early in 2010, a string of three games. In fact they haven’t lost to anybody recently as they’re the only unbeaten side in Serie A and have allowed only nine goals at home so far all season. They’ve been dropping points by drawing though, and drew four consecutive league games before beating Fiorentina last weekend. Inter hasn’t won a game in Torino since 2008 when they beat Juventus 3-2 in a Coppa Italia match.

Juventus sits in second place in the league table with 56 points from 14 wins and 14 draws. They sit four points behind AC Milan heading into the weekend. Inter is in seventh place with 41 points from 12 wins, five draws and 11 losses.

Juventus has just one win in their past five games with the other four being draws while Inter has two wins, two draws and a loss. Inter is still six points back of Napoli for the last Champions League spot for next season. If they hope to close that gap they’ll need to take all three points in this game. There’s some disharmony at the club though and a few players look totally disinterested. It was also reported that striker Diego Forlan wouldn’t leave the bench last weekend and play in their 0-0 draw against Atalanta.

It’s obvious that Juventus’ biggest problem is the lack of a killer instinct, thus the 14 draws, which means they’ve dropped 28 points on the season so far because they haven’t been able to come up with a winning goal in those matches. Since they’ draw so many games it probably makes the most sense to predict this match ending in a draw as well.

Sportsbook William Hill has the current odds of a Juventus win at 8/13 and a Inter victory at 9/2 with a draw at 11/4.
