Manchester United will be trying to get their first win of the new English Premier League season on Sat. Aug. 25th when they kickoff against Fulham ant Old Trafford in Manchester. United slumped to defeat in their season opener over in Liverpool where they were beaten 1-0 by Everton. However, they’ll probably have to go for all three points without the services of defenders Phil Jones, Jonny Evans, Rio “Sick Note” Ferdinand, and Chris Smalling as they’re all injured.

BetVictor.com has the latest match odds at for a Man United win at 1/3 with a Fulham victory at 10/1 and a draw at 7/2. They offer the biggest Premier League selection of all major sportsbooks and has good odds. If you’re new there you’ll also get some free bets.

Fulham will likely be without Kerim Frei and Philippe Senderos due to injury and Clint Dempsey may be left out of the line-up by manager Martin Jol. Fulham managed to get their season off to a flying start last weekend with a 5-0 thumping of Norwich at home at Craven Cottage. Jol left Dempsey out of the line-up for that game because the American international is trying to force the club to sell him.

However, he has a year left on his contract and nobody has put in an official bid for him. Dempsey is sulking and Jol is making a big mistake by playing into his hands and sitting him out. He may not have been needed against Norwich, but he will definitely be useful against United. Jol should force him to play or suspend him. Simon Davies and Zdenek Grygera could play, but will have to pass late fitness tests.

It’s likely that United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will start new singing Robin van Persie from Arsenal in this match since he doesn’t want to get too far behind the eight ball right from the get go. Two straight losses could see United fall six points behind Man City after just a pair of matches. Ferguson uses the Dutch striker as a sub against Everton, but he wasn’t very effective, neither was Wayne Rooney. In fact United was lucky not to have conceded more than just one goal.

Ferguson can’t depend on his defenders at the moment even though skipper Nemanja Vidic is back. The Serbian’s best days are behind him now and he’s being beaten too often. This causes him to commit needless fouls by pulling on opponents’ shirts. Patrice Evra isn’t much of a defender either now. He’s good when he has the ball, but is caught out of position way too often when he isn’t in possession. And what can be said about Ferdinand. It’s a miracle that Ferguson keeps this guy around. It seems Ferdinand’s only use with the club is to give the physio staff something to do.

Since he’s weak at the back, Ferguson recently signed defender Alexander Buttner, who will likely start on the bench. Another new signing Japanese midfielder should continue to start though as he’s already one of the club’s most impressive players. United hasn’t lost their first two league games since 1992/93, the year the EPL was launched. They won the league that year also.

Fulham has been brutal at Old Trafford and have lost eight in a row there. They haven’t even managed to score a goal in the last five trips. In their last dozen home league games, United has scored at least a pair of goals and they’ve had seven clean sheets during the last nine league home games.

Prediction for Man Utd vs Fulham

Look for United to win this match by a couple of goals. It’s just a must win for them after their loss against Everton.
