One of the biggest games of the weekend in the English Premier League will be taking place at Stamford Bridge in London on Sun. Nov. 11 when Chelsea hosts Liverpool.

Chelsea goes into the weekend in second place in the league with 23 points, one behind Manchester United, who plays Aston Villa away on Saturday. Chelsea has seven wins, two draws and just one loss with 22 goals for and 10 against. They have three wins, a loss and a draw in their last five league games, but managed to beat Shakhtar Donetsk 3-2 at home at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday in a Champions League showdown. Victor Moses scored the winner on a last-second header off of a corner kick.

Liverpool is struggling badly again under new manager Brendan Rodgers, just like they did under the helm of Kenny Dalglish and Roy Hodgson, and has just 11 points out of a possible 30 in their 10 league matches. They have two wins, five draws and three losses on the season and lie in 12th place heading into the weekend’s action. They have 13 goals for and 15 against. However, they’re unbeaten in their last five league games with a pair of wins and three draws. They played a Europa League game on Thursday and were beaten 1-0 in Russia by Anzhi Makhachkala.

Liverpool’s hopes will be pinned on striker Luis Suarez of Uruguay, who has seven goals for the Reds so far this season, more than half the team’s league total. He’ll need some help though if they’re going to beat Chelsea and this means skipper Steven Gerrard and teenager Raheem Sterling are going to have to play strong games. A loss for Liverpool will seriously harm them in the standings as they’re already 12 points behind Chelsea.

If they have any hope at winning, they can take solace in the fact that Chelsea’s been letting in a few goals lately. The London club hasn’t had a clean sheet in seven games now and aren’t the best defensive team in the league by any stretch of the imagination. However, they’re scoring plenty of goals and that more than makes up for it. The back four could be bolstered on Sunday as captain John Terry has now served his four-game suspension for racially abusing defender Anton Ferdinand of Queens Park Rangers in a game last season.

Underachieving Chelsea striker Fernando Torres will be playing against his former team in the match and he’s yet to score a goal against Liverpool in four games against them so far. He’s managed to score seven goals in all competitions this season, but he’s still nowhere near the player he used to be.

Chelsea might have to play without the services of left-back Ashley Cole as he has an injured ankle. Also, midfielder Frank Lampard will likely miss the game with a calf injury. For Liverpool, defender Glen Johnson, striker Fabio Borini, midfielder Lucas, and goalkeeper Pepe Reina are injured. Look for Brad Jones to start in goal.
