One of the most interesting games in the Portuguese Premeira League this week will see Maritimo take on Vitoria Setubal at home at the Estádio dos Barreiros in Funchal on Monday Nov. 12. Both of these teams could do with the three points since they’ve been struggling so far in the league.
Vitoria Setubal has played seven games so far with just one loss, but they’ve only got two wins to their credit along with four draws. They sit in seventh place in the league table with 10 points out of a possible 21. They’ve scored six goals on the season and have allowed nine. They beat Sporting 2-1 in their last league game on Nov. 4.
Maritimo sits in 12th place in the 16-team league with eight points in eight games. These have come courtesy of two wins, two draws and four losses. They’ve managed to score just four goals while letting in 13.
Maritimo lost to French club Bordeaux 1-0 in the Europa League on Thursday and were beaten 5-0 away at Porto in their last league match on Nov. 2.
In the last two games between these two teams, Vitoria Setubal earned a 1-1 draw at home in March and Maritimo took all three points at home in October of 2011 with a 1-0 win. In their past five games overall against all competition, Maritimo has just one win to go along with a draw and three losses. Vitoria Setubal is unbeaten in their last five with a pair of wins and three draws.
Maritimo hasn’t won at home yet, but have two draws there. Vitoria Setubal is just as bad on the road as they haven’t won a game away from home in the league so far this season. However, they’ve been tough to beat since they have managed three draws on their road travels.
Maritimo has had trouble scoring goals and keeping them out of their own net. This obviously doesn’t bode well for their match against Vitoria Setubal and they’re going to have to improve immensely over their past few games if they want to take three points here. Vitoria Setubal certainly isn’t the best team in the Portuguese league, but they’re far from being the worst either. They should be able to earn a draw at the least against Maritimo in this match.
Meyong Ze is Setubal’s top scorer so far this campaign with four goals and Maritimo defenders will need to make sure he’s marked closely. Defender Joao Guilherme Leme Amorim leads Maritimo in scoring this season with two goals in all competitions.
The latest odds on the match from sportsbook Bet365 show a Maritimo win at 8/11 with a Vitoria Setubal victory at 19/5 and a draw at 23/10.
