Altrincham will host Burton Albion at Moss Lane ground this Thursday Nov. 15 in a first round FA Cup replay. The first match was an entertaining affair which ended in a 3-3 draw in Burton. Striker Calvin Zola managed to score just before the final whistle blew to earn the draw for Burton Albion and force a replay. Burton actually scored five goals that night since Damien McCrory and Nathan Stanton scored own goals to help Altrincham out.
Altrincham, who plays in the Blue Square North League, has been struggling at home lately though and has won just two games on their home ground in their past dozen contests there. These were a 3-1 victory over Brafdord Park Avenue and a 5-0 whitewashing of Histon. The man to watch out for in the Altrincham attack is striker Damien Reeves has he has managed to score 15 goals already this season. Duncan Watmore has also been playing pretty well of late and has four goals.
Burton, who play in League Two, might count themselves lucky to have made it to a replay, but they should be better prepared for this match. Since the first leg of the tie Burton has beaten Plymouth 2-1 away and lost 1-0 at Cheltenham. They have won two, drawn two, and lost one in their past five matches overall. Their attack will be led by Zola, who has six goals on the season. Defender Alex Diamond has three goals to his name and Jacques Maghoma has managed to score four times. Striker Billy Kee is also dangerous as he proved last season with a dozen goals in 14 starts for the club.
Altrincham sits in 12th place in their 22-team league with five wins, two draws and six losses for 17 points. They’ve scored 29 goals and allowed 26 against. In their past five games overall they have just one win to go along with a draw and three losses. Burton Albion is currently in seventh place in League Two with 15 points in their 16 league games. They have seven wins, four draws and five losses with 24 goals for and 21 against.
Altrincham will have to play the game without the services of their captain Shaun Densmoreas he was sent off in their recent match with Solihull Moors. In addition, midfielder Carl Rodgers has a hamstring injury and it won’t be known until game time if he’ll be able to play for manager Lee Sinnott. It looks as if Burton Albion will have Jacques Maghoma back in the squad after the midfielder missed their game on the weekend. Also Damien McCrory will be returning after the left-back served a one-game ban on the weekend.
