Manchester United will be trying to keep their lead in the English Premier League on Sat. Nov. 17 when they visit Carrow Road to take on hosts Norwich City. United sits in first place in the table heading into the weekend with 27 points from nine wins and two losses. They are two points ahead of Manchester City and three above Chelsea. Javier Hernandez is their hottest player at the moment with seven goals in his past five matches.

Norwich has struggled so far this term under new manager Chris Hughton and has just 11 points from two wins, five draws and four losses. They may have to play the game without the services of defender Russell Martin, striker Harry Kane, and midfielder Alex Tettey as they will all have to pass fitness tests before returning to the squad. If any of them return in time for the match it will probably be Tettey.

For United, it looks as if defender Jonny Evans, defender and captain Nemanja Vidic, defender Phil Jones, winger Nani, and forward Shinji Kagawa could all miss the game due to various injuries. In addition, striker Wayne Rooney is also on the doubtful list as he injured his ankle during United’s come-from-behind 3-2 win over Aston Villa last weekend. Striker Robin van Persie pulled out of Holland’s friendly 0-0 draw against Germany on Wednesday, but is expected to be back.

Man United has won five league games in a row while Norwich City hasn’t lost in the last five with a pair of 1-0 wins included over Stoke and Arsenal. In their last eight games in Norwich, Man United has managed to win seven of them while losing just once. In last season’s showdowns between United and Norwich, United won 2-1 away and 2-0 at home. Norwich has been playing well at home lately though with three wins, two draws and just one loss in their past six. They also have four clean sheets in these contests.

United has fallen behind on numerous occasions so far this season only to come storming back to win. If Norwich manages to get a lead on them it would be a good idea to keep playing for more goals instead of trying to defend their lead. United has so many players that Norwich defenders need to keep their eye on while Grant Holt is still the Canaries biggest goal scoring threat up front. Hernandez will likely pair up with Van Persie in this match to spearhead the United attack.

Predictions and odds

This should be a closer game than many people predict. United often struggles a little against lower teams as they don’t seem to be as motivated and sometimes play to the level of their opposition. However, they should still be able to outscore Norwich and leave town with all three points.

William Hill is showing the latest odds of a Norwich win at 13/2 and a Man United victory at 4/9 with a draw at 16/5.
