Dynamo Kiev of Ukraine will be hosting big-spending Paris St. Germain (PSG) of France on Wednesday November 21 at the NSK Olympic Stadium in a Champions League Group A game. PSG manager Carlo Ancelotti knows his team will advance to the next round with just one point here and will definitely be going for it. However, it will be a pretty tough task since Kiev is quite strong at home.
Porto leads the group with 10 points followed by PSG with nine, Kiev with four and Dinamo Zagreb with 0. For Kiev, all three points are essential if they hope to carry on in the tournament. Kiev manager Oleg Blokhin has recalled Maxym Koval and Denys Garmash for the match after resting them on the weekend in their 1-0 loss against Metalurg Donetsk. The loss hurt as they’re trying to chase down league leaders Shakhtar Donetsk, so that move basically backfired on the manager.
In the first meeting between these two clubs, PSG beat Kiev pretty handily 4-1 in Paris. However, things could be different in Kiev, especially if the weather is harsh. PSG will be missing a few players as well since winger Jeremy Menez was injured during the team’s 2-1 home loss against Stade Rennais on the weekend. In addition, captain Christophe Jallet is sidelined as are Kevin Gameiro, Mathieu Bodmer, and Thiago Motta.
On the bright side, star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be back in the squad after serving a suspension. The big Swede recently ripped England apart when he scored all four of his team’s goals in a 4-2 home win in an international friendly last week. In his last game for PSG in the Champions League he set up all four goals as they beat Dinamo Zagreb 4-0. Mamadou Sakho will also rejoin the team after sitting out a suspension.
But even though Dynamo Kiev has just four points in Group A, they have yet to taste defeat at their home stadium in the competition this season. The last time PSG travelled to Kiev to play a match was back in 2009 when Kiev handles tem 3-0 during a Europa League contest. Kiev has to win this game too or they will be sent packing from the tournament. PSG has managed to win just one road match in the Champions League since 1997.
PSG has been struggling lately and have dropped to third place in the French Ligue 1. Their away record in the Champions League is terrible and Kiev is in a must-win situation. All of the odds look to be against the French side, but Ibrahimovic is a player that could win the game single handedly. Ancelotti is looking for a team effort rather than an individual one on this game though. Considering all of the scenarios and the team forms, it looks like Kiev could manage to pull out a win here.
The latest odds on this match from sportsbook William Hill show a Dynamo Kiev win at 9/5 with a PSG victory at 6/4 and a draw at 11/5.
