Man United vs Real MadridOne thing is guaranteed on Tuesday March 5, and that is the fact that one of the world’s top football teams will be knocked out of this season’s European Champions League at the round-of-16 stage when Manchester United of the English Premier League hosts Spain’s Real Madrid at Old Trafford in England. The two teams drew 1-1 in the first leg in Madrid and this match will be the decider. Madrid have to score at least once to win the tie or force extra time.

Manchester United will be able to advance with a 0-0 draw due to the away-goal rule and of course any type of victory will see them through. A 1-1 draw means the game will go into extra time and any Madrid win will see the Spanish club make it to the next round. Also any draw above 1-1 will also send Madrid to the quarterfinals.

Sportsbook William Hill has the latest odds of a Man United win at 21/10 while the odds of a Real Madrid victory are 13/10 and a draw is listed at 9/4. Don’t miss their free bet offer on Manchester United vs Real Madrid!

Alex Ferguson is in charge of United while Jose Mourinho manages Madrid, so we know the game will feature two of the sport’s best ever managers. This could also be a special day for United veteran Ryan Giggs as it will be his 1,000th top-level football game if he plays. The star for Madrid meanwhile is none other than ex-United star Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored for his side in the first leg.

United leads the Premier League at the moment with a 12-point bulge over cross town rivals Manchester City. United hammered Norwich 4-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday and are going into this game on a roll. However, Madrid could actually be the hotter team since they beat arch enemy Barcelona twice last week. They managed a 2-1 win over the Spanish leaders on the weekend and also humbled them 3-1 earlier in the week in the King’s Cup. It’ll be interesting to see what they have left in the petrol tank against United though.

Real Madrid with confidence

The wins over Barcelona will do wonders for Madrid’s confidence and this could mean big trouble for United. The Madrid players know they have what it takes to beat the best teams on the planet and could be very difficult to stop. United will also be hindered as they’ll likely have to play without defender/midfielder Phil Jones who’s out with an injured ankle. Everybody else could be healthy for the clash though, but captain Nemanja Vidic is still in doubt and the same goes for Paul Scholes.

It looks like Madrid will be without Spanish international keeper Iker Casillas even though he made the trip to England. Look for Diego Lopez to start in goal for the team again. Both teams will have their hands full and their work cut out for them here. It has the potential to be an exciting attacking game, but it could also be a dull, cautious affair. Both teams have excellent attacking power and their defences have been a little suspect so far this season, so hopefully there will be a few goals scored.

Our Prediction for Man United vs Real Madrid

This game could easily end in a draw and extra time is also a possibility as 1-1 is a realistic result.
