Ilya Kovalchuk Agrees New Contract With New Jersey Devils

Ilya Kovalchuk has signed a new contract with the New Jersey Devils ending speculation that he was about to sign for the Los Angeles Kings. Apart from the Kings, the New York Islanders and a Russian team were also hoping to sign the Devils star.

Last season Kovalchuk had 41 goals and 44 assists, although only 10 goals and 17 assists came with the Devils.

Kovalchuk, a 27-year-old Russian was traded to the Devils by Atlanta in February after rejecting a 12-year, $101 million extension offered by the Thrashers.
