Big spending Manchester City and Spanish giants Real Madrid are set to fight it out for Benfica defender David Luiz. A Spanish newspaper, Marca, has stated that Manchester City have offered Benfica 33 million Euros for the quality defender. City’s bid is 5 million more than Real Madrid’s initial 28 million offer.

Luiz, aged 23, has been at Benfica for his entire career but started to attract attention last season due to outstanding performances. His great form helped Benfica win the Portuguese championship.

It is a known fact that City boss, Roberto Mancini has had an eye on Luiz for some time plus of course City has the finances to land the pacey defender. City though are not favourites to land the star defender as Luiz as stated that he would prefer a dream move to Real Madrid.
