A dejected Robinho will head back to Manchester after talks with Santos broke down. City have imposed a £20 million plus price tag on the Brazilian which has clearly left him available to only a few of the world’s top clubs. Robinho now has no option other than to return to City and try to rebuild his career. Robinho did show in the world cup that he is one of the best players in the world so he simply needs to reproduce the same form in the Premier League.

Robinho signed off for Santos on a high and received a standing ovation from the fans after a 2-0 win against Vitoria.

“This display of affection from the fans really touches me because this is my home,” he said. “I hope I can stay but it depends on Manchester City. I hope this is not my last game here but, for now, what I have been told is that they [the negotiations] are at a standstill and I have to go back to Manchester.”

Robinho’s agent, Evandro de Souzavsaid: “Unfortunately, this will probably be Robinho’s last game at Vila Belmiro. Manchester City have already told me and Santos they want him back after the end of the contract.”
