Liverpool look set to land Danish international, Christian Poulsen in a double deal that will include the exit of Javier Mascherano. It is reported that the deal will make Liverpool in access of £20 million.

Liverpool boss, Roy Hodgson, has agreed a fee, reported to be £6 million with Juventus for Poulsen with Hodgson stating:

“Poulsen is a legitimate transfer target if it can happen; he’s a player I know well. I kick-started his career some years ago now and I’ve followed him closely ever since.

“If we could get him from Juventus for a price I consider to be reasonable, he will be a very good addition to our squad.”

Hodgson also again stated that Mascherano will be allowed to leave for at least £26 million. Hodgson was reported to have said:

“Mascherano put in a transfer request a week ago, and even though Inter Milan are still to submit a formal offer for the player, Hodgson confirmed last night: “If a big offer comes in for him and it is a club that he wants to go to, I don’t think my powers of persuasion will help to keep him,”

“At the moment we haven’t had an offer, so I can continue to work with him and deal with him as a Liverpool player and consider him as a Liverpool player.

“When the day arrives where an offer meets our valuation and he wants to go, then we will have to look at it differently.”

Hodgson was in similarly realistic mood about comments from Fulham owner Mohamed Fayed this week, which suggested he had let the London club down by moving to Anfield.

“I just have to take his comments on the chin – it would have been nice had he said good things about me after leaving, but I suppose it would have been even worse if he hadn’t been bothered I left.”
